Pluto is considered the coldest planet in our solar system due to its distance from the Sun. Being located in the Kuiper Belt, a region filled with icy bodies and dwarf planets, Pluto is about 39.5 astronomical units (AU) away from the Sun on average. This vast distance means that it receives very little sunlight, resulting in extremely low temperatures.
Pluto’s surface temperature can drop as low as -375 degrees Fahrenheit (-225 degrees Celsius). The lack of a significant atmosphere also contributes to its cold environment. Unlike Earth, which has a thick atmosphere that helps retain heat, Pluto’s thin atmosphere is not capable of trapping much warmth. This combination of factors makes Pluto one of the coldest known places in our solar system.
