mRNA, or messenger RNA, is found in the cytoplasm of the cell. It is synthesized in the nucleus during the process of transcription, where DNA is used as a template to produce mRNA. Once the mRNA is formed, it exits the nucleus through nuclear pores and enters the cytoplasm. In the cytoplasm, mRNA serves as a template for protein synthesis during the process of translation. Ribosomes, which are the cellular machinery for protein synthesis, bind to the mRNA and read its sequence to assemble amino acids into a polypeptide chain, ultimately forming a protein.
