Where are the Sierra Madre Mountains?

The Sierra Madre Mountains are a major mountain range located in Mexico. They are divided into two main ranges: the Sierra Madre Occidental and the Sierra Madre Oriental.

The Sierra Madre Occidental runs along the western side of Mexico, extending from the state of Sonora in the north down to the state of Jalisco in the south. This range is known for its rugged terrain and deep canyons, and it boasts some of the tallest peaks in the country.

On the other hand, the Sierra Madre Oriental lies to the east, starting from the southern part of Texas and extending down through the states of Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, and further into central Mexico, eventually reaching as far as Puebla and Hidalgo.

Both ranges play a crucial role in Mexico’s geography and climate, influencing weather patterns and serving as natural barriers. They are home to diverse ecosystems and are an essential part of the nation’s natural heritage.
