The temperature on the Moon during Apollo 11 varied significantly between day and night. While the lunar daytime temperature reached around 127 degrees Celsius (260 degrees Fahrenheit), the nighttime temperature plummeted to about -173 degrees Celsius (-280 degrees Fahrenheit).
This extreme temperature variation is due to the Moon’s lack of a substantial atmosphere, which means it can’t trap heat, leading to these drastic changes. Astronauts on the Apollo 11 mission experienced these conditions firsthand when they landed on July 20, 1969. Though they conducted their moonwalks during the lunar daytime, they were well-protected by their space suits, which were designed to insulate and regulate temperature in these harsh conditions.
