Common Pitfalls

One common mistake is confusing merocrine glands with apocrine glands. While both are exocrine, remember that apocrine glands (like those in the armpits) involve the loss of a portion of the cell membrane, whereas merocrine glands do not. Additionally, do not confuse the function of the gland with the location; a gland is classified by its method of secretion, not just where it is located in the body.
