Manhattan’s elevation above sea level varies across different areas of the island. On average, Manhattan is about 33 feet (10 meters) above sea level. However, the elevation can range from sea level at the waterfront to heights of about 265 feet (81 meters) at its highest point, which is located in the area known as Bennett Park in Washington Heights.
This variation in elevation is due to the island’s natural topography and geological history. Historically, much of Manhattan was shaped through glacial activity and erosion, leading to the diverse landscapes we see today.
