One organelle that is abundant in muscle cells is the mitochondrion.
Mitochondria are often referred to as the powerhouses of the cell because they are responsible for producing ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the energy currency of the cell. Muscle cells require a lot of energy to contract and perform work, especially during physical activities. Therefore, they have a high demand for ATP production, leading to an increased number of mitochondria to meet this energy requirement. The presence of more mitochondria allows muscle cells to sustain prolonged activity and maintain performance during exercise.
