The United Kingdom, as we know it today, was officially founded in 1707.
This came about with the union of the Kingdom of England and the Kingdom of Scotland, resulting in the creation of the Kingdom of Great Britain. The Act of Union was a significant legislative move that aimed to create a more unified governing body and increase political stability in the region.
However, it’s important to note that the roots of what would eventually become the United Kingdom trace back much further. England and Scotland had been distinct kingdoms for centuries, each with its own history and rulers, before their eventual unification. Later, in 1801, the Kingdom of Great Britain united with the Kingdom of Ireland, forming the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Following the independence of most of Ireland in 1922, the name was changed to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, which remains today.
