The color spectrum, often referred to as the visible light spectrum, is the range of colors that the human eye can see. The order of colors in the color spectrum is as follows:
- Red
- Orange
- Yellow
- Green
- Blue
- Indigo
- Violet
This sequence of colors is often remembered by the acronym ROYGBIV. Each color in the spectrum corresponds to a different wavelength of light, with red having the longest wavelength and violet having the shortest.
When light passes through a prism, it is refracted and separated into these colors, creating a rainbow-like effect. This phenomenon is known as dispersion and is a fundamental concept in understanding how light behaves.
