The geocentric theory, which places Earth at the center of the universe with the Sun, Moon, stars, and planets orbiting around it, was proposed by the ancient Greek philosopher Claudius Ptolemy. His model, known as the Ptolemaic system, was detailed in his work Almagest around 150 AD. This theory dominated scientific thought for over a millennium until the heliocentric model, proposed by Nicolaus Copernicus in the 16th century, gained acceptance.
