Who Died First in Romeo and Juliet?

In Shakespeare’s tragic play, Romeo and Juliet, the first significant character to die is Mercutio. His death occurs in Act 3, Scene 1, during a confrontation with Tybalt. Mercutio is fatally wounded when Romeo intervenes in their fight, attempting to stop the violence. This act of peace causes Mercutio to curse both the Montagues and the Capulets, famously proclaiming, ‘A plague o’ both your houses!’ Mercutio’s death sets off a chain of events that ultimately leads to the tragic demise of both Romeo and Juliet.
