The foothills of the Appalachian Mountains are located along the eastern edge of the mountain range. These foothills stretch from the northern part of Alabama, through Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and into parts of Connecticut and Massachusetts.
The Appalachian foothills serve as a transition zone between the flat coastal plains to the east and the higher, more rugged peaks of the Appalachian Mountains to the west. This area is characterized by rolling hills, dense forests, and numerous rivers and streams. The foothills are also known for their rich biodiversity and scenic beauty, making them a popular destination for outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, and birdwatching.
