Pablo Picasso never officially stopped painting. His artistic journey spanned over seven decades, during which he continuously evolved his style and explored various artistic forms. While he did produce fewer paintings in the later years of his life, notorious for his prolific periods earlier, his work remained a vital part of his life until his passing in 1973.
In the later years, particularly during the 1960s and 1970s, Picasso’s health began to decline which may have affected his output. However, he still created notable works and experimented with different mediums, including ceramics and sculpture. Thus, it is more accurate to say that he reduced his activity rather than completely stopping.
