Katherine Johnson attended several schools during her childhood, but one of the most notable was the segregated Black school in her hometown of White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. She showed exceptional mathematical skills from a young age, which allowed her to skip several grades and graduate high school by the age of 14. Afterward, she attended West Virginia University, where she became one of the first African American women to enroll. Johnson’s educational journey was marked by her early passion for learning and her ability to excel in a challenging environment.
