The main organ in the excretory system is the kidney.
Kidneys play a critical role in filtering waste products from the blood, producing urine, and maintaining the body’s fluid and electrolyte balance. Each person typically has two kidneys, which are located on either side of the spine, just below the ribcage. They work tirelessly to remove toxins and excess substances, ensuring that the body’s internal environment remains stable and healthy.
The kidneys filter about 50 gallons of blood daily, extracting waste and excess substances to be excreted. The urine produced collects in the bladder before being expelled from the body. Therefore, the kidneys are essential not only for waste removal but also for regulating blood pressure and making red blood cells.
