The farthest planet from Earth is Neptune. Neptune is the eighth and most distant planet in our solar system. It is located an average distance of about 2.8 billion miles (4.5 billion kilometers) from Earth. Due to its great distance, Neptune is not visible to the naked eye and was the first planet located through mathematical predictions rather than regular observations.
Neptune is a gas giant, similar to Uranus, and is composed mostly of hydrogen, helium, and methane. The methane in its atmosphere gives Neptune its characteristic blue color. It has a very active climate with large storms and high-speed winds, some of the fastest in the solar system.
Despite its distance, Neptune has been visited by only one spacecraft, Voyager 2, which flew by the planet in 1989. This mission provided valuable data and images of Neptune and its moons, significantly enhancing our understanding of this distant world.
