One third plus one third equals two thirds. When you add fractions with the same denominator, you simply add the numerators and keep the denominator the same. In this case, 1/3 + 1/3 = (1 + 1)/3 = 2/3. This means if you have one third of something and you add another one third, you end up with two thirds of that thing.
