A baby panda is called a cub. Just like other bear species, pandas give birth to cubs. These cubs are incredibly small at birth, weighing only about 100 grams, which is roughly the size of a stick of butter. Despite their tiny size, panda cubs grow quickly with the proper care and nutrition from their mothers.
Panda cubs are born blind and rely entirely on their mothers for the first few months of their lives. They start to open their eyes at around six to eight weeks old and begin to crawl at about three months. By the time they are six months old, they start to eat bamboo, although they continue to nurse for up to a year.
