A baby giraffe is called a calf. Just like many other young animals, such as cows and elephants, the term ‘calf’ is used to describe a young giraffe. Giraffe calves are born after a gestation period of about 15 months. At birth, they are already quite tall, standing around 6 feet tall. Despite their height, they are still dependent on their mothers for milk and protection. Within a few hours of being born, a giraffe calf can stand and even run, which is crucial for their survival in the wild.
