George Frideric Handel was not Catholic. He was born into a Lutheran family in Halle, Germany, in 1685. Throughout his life, Handel remained a devout Lutheran, although he composed music for various Christian denominations, including the Church of England. His most famous work, ‘Messiah,’ is an English-language oratorio that has become a staple of Christian sacred music, particularly during the Christmas and Easter seasons. Despite his Lutheran faith, Handel’s music transcends denominational boundaries and is celebrated by Christians of many traditions.
