The number one followed by one hundred zeros is known as a ‘googol.’ The term ‘googol’ was coined in the 1930s by mathematician Edward Kasner, who was looking for a way to illustrate the concept of very large numbers. He asked his nine-year-old nephew, Milton Sirotta, to come up with a name for this immense quantity, and Milton suggested ‘googol.’
A googol is represented numerically as 10100, which means 10 multiplied by itself 100 times. To put this into perspective, a googol is far larger than the number of atoms in the observable universe, which is estimated to be around 1080. This illustrates just how vast a googol really is!
