Pumice is an igneous rock. It forms when volcanic gases are rapidly trapped in lava, creating a frothy texture. As the lava cools and solidifies, it forms pumice, which is known for its lightweight and porous nature.
Unlike sedimentary rocks, which form from the accumulation and compaction of mineral and organic particles, or metamorphic rocks, which form from the transformation of existing rock types under heat and pressure, pumice is directly formed from volcanic activity. This makes it a clear example of an igneous rock.
