Cambodia is not a communist country. While it was under communist rule during the Khmer Rouge regime from 1975 to 1979, the country has since transitioned to a constitutional monarchy with a multi-party democracy. The ruling party, the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), has its roots in the communist movement but has adopted a more market-oriented approach over the years. Today, Cambodia operates under a mixed economic system, combining elements of both capitalism and socialism.
