Ostriches have a total of two toes on each foot. Unlike most birds that possess three or four toes, ostriches are unique in their toe structure. The two toes work efficiently to help these large flightless birds run at high speeds, reaching up to 45 miles per hour.
Their toes are adapted for running, with one of them being larger and more developed than the other. This configuration allows for better stability and balance while sprinting over the rough terrain of their native habitats in Africa. So, while they may not have the typical number of toes you might expect from a bird, their two-toed feet are perfectly suited for their lifestyle.
