The Twin Towers of the World Trade Center burned for approximately 56 minutes (South Tower) and 102 minutes (North Tower) before collapsing on September 11, 2001. The South Tower was struck by United Airlines Flight 175 at 9:03 AM and collapsed at 9:59 AM. The North Tower was hit by American Airlines Flight 11 at 8:46 AM and collapsed at 10:28 AM.
The intense heat from the burning jet fuel weakened the steel structures of the buildings, causing them to collapse. The fires, combined with the impact damage, led to the eventual failure of the structural supports.
