The liver is located inferior to the diaphragm and superior to the stomach. When considering its position relative to the lungs, the liver sits inferiorly and medially to the right lung. In relation to the skin, the liver is situated deeper within the body, beneath the rib cage and layer of abdominal skin. Furthermore, it is located superior and lateral to the kidneys, which lie further down in the abdominal cavity. Regarding the knee, the liver is positioned superior to the knee joint, as it is in the upper abdominal region while the knee is in the lower limb region. Lastly, when relating the liver to the vertebral column, it is found anterior to the vertebral bodies and slightly to the right side, due to its anatomical position within the abdominal cavity. In relation to the nose, the liver is located far inferior and posterior, as the nose is part of the facial structure at the anterior aspect of the head.
