How Did Romeo and Juliet Die?

Romeo and Juliet, the famous star-crossed lovers from William Shakespeare’s play, died as a result of a series of misunderstandings and tragic events.

Juliet, in an attempt to avoid marrying Paris, takes a potion given to her by Friar Laurence that makes her appear dead. Romeo, unaware of this plan, hears of Juliet’s ‘death’ and buys poison. He goes to Juliet’s tomb, where he encounters Paris. They fight, and Romeo kills Paris. Believing Juliet to be dead, Romeo drinks the poison and dies by her side.

When Juliet wakes up and finds Romeo dead, she is devastated. She tries to kiss the poison from his lips but fails. In her grief, she stabs herself with Romeo’s dagger, thus ending her life.

Their deaths ultimately lead to the reconciliation of their feuding families, the Montagues and the Capulets.
