Wolves are primarily carnivorous predators that thrive on larger mammals, but their diet can be quite varied depending on the environment and availability of food sources. While it’s uncommon for wolves to target eagles specifically, they are opportunistic feeders and may occasionally prey on them under certain conditions.
In general, wolves hunt animals like deer, elk, and moose, as these provide a substantial amount of food to sustain their packs. Eagles, being birds of prey, have the ability to soar and escape from ground-based predators. Their agility and flight usually keep them safe from wolves. However, if an eagle is injured, sick, or if its nest is situated in an area where wolves are active, wolves may take advantage of the situation.
Moreover, wolves may scavenge on the remains of eagles that have died from other causes. In essence, while it’s not a regular part of a wolf’s diet, they won’t shy away from an easy meal if the opportunity arises. So while the direct predation of eagles by wolves is rare, it is not entirely out of the realm of possibility in specific circumstances.
