While cougars, or mountain lions, are known to be opportunistic predators with a varied diet, owls generally do not make up a significant portion of their meals. Cougars primarily hunt larger mammals such as deer, elk, and smaller mammals like rabbits and rodents. However, in some rare instances, if a cougar encounters an owl that is easily accessible, it might prey on it.
Owls are usually quite different from the typical prey that cougars pursue. They are skilled in flight and often roost in high places, making them harder to catch for a ground-based predator like a cougar. Most of the time, a cougar’s focus will be on animals that provide more substantial calories and are easier to hunt.
