Albert Einstein began his college education at the age of 17. He enrolled at the Polytechnic Institute of Zurich, Switzerland, in 1896, after passing the entrance exam. Initially, he struggled with some subjects but eventually excelled in mathematics and physics. His time at the Polytechnic laid the foundation for his extraordinary contributions to theoretical physics later in life. Einstein graduated in 1900 with a diploma teaching qualification.
