Wolves were once native to Mississippi, but they have been largely extirpated from the state due to habitat loss and persecution. While the gray wolf (Canis lupus) is found in some parts of North America, including states further north and west, it is not found in Mississippi in any significant numbers today.
There have been rare sightings of wolves or wolf-dog hybrids in the state, but these instances are not indicative of a stable population. Wildlife conservation efforts have focused on protecting and restoring habitats and other native species, but as it stands, Mississippi does not have a wild population of wolves.
