Are Hippos Predators or Prey?

Hippos are primarily herbivores, meaning they mostly eat plants. However, they can be very aggressive and are known to attack humans and other animals if they feel threatened. This aggressive behavior can sometimes make them appear as predators.

In terms of being prey, adult hippos have few natural predators due to their large size and aggressive nature. However, young hippos (calves) can be vulnerable to predators such as lions, hyenas, and crocodiles.

So, while hippos are not typical predators, they can exhibit predatory behavior in certain situations. On the other hand, they are not common prey for other animals, except for their young.
