The high silica content in rhyolitic magma affects its viscosity, making it more viscous than other magma types. This increased viscosity can lead to more explosive volcanic eruptions because gases are less able to escape from the thick, sticky magma. Moreover, the formation of rhyolitic magma often occurs in continental crust environments, where the processes of partial melting and fractional crystallization can concentrate silica.
