In the genetic code, three RNA nucleotides, known as a codon, correspond to a single amino acid. This means that for every amino acid added during protein synthesis, a sequence of three nucleotides will be read by the ribosome. Each of the 20 different amino acids is specified by one or more codons, creating a link between the nucleotide sequence in RNA and the amino acid sequence in a protein.
