These metals are characterized by their shiny appearance, high reactivity, and tendency to easily lose one electron to form positive ions. The alkali metals include lithium (Li), sodium (Na), potassium (K), rubidium (Rb), cesium (Cs), and francium (Fr). Due to their reactivity, especially with water, they are not found freely in nature and are usually found in compounds.
