Plantae are autotrophs. This means they can produce their own food using light, water, carbon dioxide, or other chemicals. Most plants use a process called photosynthesis to convert light energy from the sun into chemical energy in the form of glucose. This glucose is then used as a source of energy for the plant’s growth and development. Unlike heterotrophs, which rely on consuming other organisms for energy, plants are self-sustaining and form the base of most ecosystems by providing energy to other organisms.
