A solar cell is a device that collects energy from the sun to make electricity. In a plant cell, the part that is most similar to a solar cell is the chloroplast. Chloroplasts are responsible for photosynthesis, the process by which plants convert sunlight into chemical energy. Just like a solar cell captures sunlight and converts it into electrical energy, chloroplasts capture sunlight and convert it into energy stored in the form of glucose. This makes chloroplasts the plant cell’s equivalent of a solar cell.
