An osprey is neither a hawk nor an eagle. It is a unique bird of prey that belongs to its own family, Pandionidae. While ospreys share some similarities with hawks and eagles, such as being raptors and having sharp talons, they are distinct in several ways. Ospreys are specialized fish hunters and have unique adaptations for this lifestyle, such as reversible outer toes and closable nostrils to keep out water during dives. Hawks and eagles, on the other hand, have more varied diets and hunting techniques. So, while they may look similar at a glance, ospreys are a separate group altogether.
